To view an organization with a focus on decision making and the process in coming to those decision, in regards to actions and operations, is to study the “culture” of the organization. To analyze what it is which governs the behavior of the organization, is to expand past the direct actions of its members to determine the source of such actions. By understanding where the behavior originates and what values it is set in, allows for the culture to be accurately illustrated. “organisational culture is 'the set of key values, beliefs, understandings and norms that members...share (Daft, 1994), and that it is also 'the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of one human group from another' (Steers & Black, 1994), neither definition goes quite far enough. I believe that something about goals and commitment must be included. The culture of an organisation or a department is there for a number of purposes, one of which is the end result of the organisation/department's being. If we believe that a culture grows from the thinking and doing of employees, and involves shared expectations, then part of that thinking and doing, and those expectations, are towards goals. The people are committed, ergo, the culture contains an element of commitment” (Monk, 2000). Everything about an organization is influenced by the culture either direct or indirectly. Every decision affirmed and brought to life, drew course through the values instilled by the culture. Physical make up of the organization is a reflection of the current culture hierarchy. Every distinguishable characteristic within an organization can be traced back to the appropriate cultural trait in which it sourced from.
