Information Overload Can Hinder Performance

Another problem that has developed due to information overload is the concentration spam reported on individuals recently. Most individuals receive an average of 178 e-mails a day plus text messaging and phone calls. Many individuals carry a face to face conversation while checking their phone. This causes the brain to concentrate in more than one thing and therefore, individuals are unable to pay attention for long periods of time. Communication skills are being lost in the process creating a problem in the work place when precise information needs to be relayed and employees are unable to communicate clearly due to their luck of communication skills. (Williams, K 2009).

The amount of information that most individuals receive today is now considered harmful. The information received is more than humans have ever had to deal with. Making the situation stressful and sometimes unmanageable, the challenge now for most individuals and corporations is to learn how to decimate and apply the right information. Most of the nations having to deal with this situation are the affluent countries. This is one of the prices humans are paying for the advancement of high technology. (Himma, K. 2007)

Solutions

Beyond the negative impact that overload information has caused humans in the recent years. There is enough data to attest to the fact that there can be a positive outcome from this situation.
