I enjoyed the discussion on the Indians because it seemed like a good topic and I was interested in the different opinions people had. But I felt that the Indians were victims of the tyrannical rule of the European settlers! The Indians were never trying to control the land they lived on. When the Europeans came to the Americas they took over land, plagued Indian’s with diseases, and forced their culture and religion on the Indian’s. The reason for the Europeans doings were for wealth and gold. The Indians however never tried to control the land and enforced no rebellion. Although the Indians were friendly the European’s seeked control of the land and stripped the Indians for it. In this revolution of the new world the Indians were definitely the victims. And then in the future when government and education were established Indians were stereotyped and teased in boarding schools and in everyday life. Which brings us back to the discussion in class which was if a song was acceptable if it had lyrics that was offending to Indians if the artist wasn’t an Indian. I think it was because the Indians struggle through history was so hard their story deserves to be herd. Their struggle wasn’t easy it was tough and some didn’t get to make their voices herd. The lyrics in this song mention the cruelty and things Indians went through weather it happened to her the struggle is real. I think it’s a voice speaking out for a culture and a special people. She was brave to make a song that included a struggle she didn’t face, she must have known there would have been controversy over it. But she felt confident in her opinion and letting it be known which is brave…
