The Head Office is in fact a strong component and for sure a prerequisite for success in business strategy of MNCs in cross-market integration. The head offices are the heart of a corporation and due to that it is the place where all business activities are centralized. The centralization is needed in order to maintain a high level of performance across markets, as well as keeping the company’s original policies of services and employee’s culture. At the head office important decisions are made on a daily basis, these decisions are then passed along to both domestic and international markets. The role of the head office is what keeps the company’s focus no matter in what market or business segment the company is getting into. The rules and policies made at the home country must be followed in order to keep consistency of performance, this way the company is able to provide the same level of services that will always be attached to the brand’s name. The fact that Citibank wants its clientele to have an experience much like they have in America means that the company strive for a standard set of policies and services independent the country it is in. Head offices are also important in regards to the company’s finance operations. Most of the strategic decisions regarding investments are made at the home country and not at the host nation. The centralizing management format is sometimes challenging, control of international branches’ performance and its employees are doable through expensive software that sometimes is not able to provide the head offices with realistic data.
