In this essay, I would be discussing my opinion about the video of Tanti at the Oval. I would also critique it in terms of its applicability for contemporary social commentary on the Caribbean.

Firstly, my opinion of Tanti at the Oval, was that Paul Keens-Douglas was a man that tried to give you a nice picture of what it was like to take his aunt Tanti and her first visit to the Queen’s Park Oval to watch an important cricket between Trinidad and the Combine Islands. They use colourful examples of life in the Caribbean by speaking in heartening humour, intense expression, colourful language and colourful illustrations. Also to my opinion he gave a perfect picture from Tanti’s antics, from her preparation for the trip, to the match, to her behaviour at the game. I would be discussing Tanti’s behaviour at the cricket match and compare it another misbehaviour at another cricket match, also I would be discussing why every time someone ask Tanti where she come from she give them the history of St. Vincent, also Tanti parasol and how it was compared to Carnival and last but not least Tanti’s over packing to go to the match which was compared to Christmas.

Examples are, “Tanti Merle start, she touch a badgon in front she and tell he to take off he hat, she say it barring she”. Which means Tanti found the badgon hat bothering her because she couldn’t see the match properly. Also, “she say the way Romes jump an catch dat he must be eat Mountain Chicken from Dominique an she start up saying how they thieving”. Which means that Tanti compared how Romes caught the ball to a frog and “she say de crowd too hypocrites how they cheering for one body an backing the next body”. Similarly something close happen on a match of Sri Lanka v...
