Jessica A. Greene is a woman of scientific, creative, and spiritual intelligence whose determination will not be hindered by any strongholds or circumstances. As a natural born analyst, she was interested in the numerical processes and the theory of pure mathematics. In 2013, her mother died of uncontrollable blood sugar levels, her uncle died of prostate cancer, and my aunt was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes. These events, all of which happened in a matter of three weeks, profoundly influenced her interest in the research of bioinformatics. Currently, she is a PhD student at North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University researching Next Generation Sequencing with the focus on Diabetes and diseases related to high blood sugar levels.

Born the youngest child of three in Statesboro, Georgia, Jessica was raised in a household that valued education and spirituality. Her mother, Nancy Greene, was an elementary school teacher, while her father was a soldier in the army. Nancy and Jerry separated soon after Jessica’s first birthday. Due to the separation, Nancy and her children moved to Faison, North Carolina. Jessica was a very quiet and timid child, and often found it difficult to participate in many group activities in school. However, the teachers at Jessica’s elementary school took notice to her mathematical ability and encouraged her to enter mathematical contests and become a scientific related clubs. Through these endeavors, she gained confidence and was inspired to persue an advanced degree in mathematics.

She began her professional research in science as an honor student at Fayetteville State University. There, Jessica developed mathematical models in business, politics and biology in order to increase productivity in those areas.
