Gestalt Theory

Gestalt theory was established by Frederick and Laura Perls. Gestalt is German word meaning holism, unity of mind, body, and feelings. The basic assumptions of Gestalt theory is growth that involves the individual to shift to self-support. Gestalt therapy focus on what individuals can do for themselves while deal effectively with their life troubles. The fundamental job of the therapist is to serve clients fully experience their being in the here and now by becoming mindful of how they forbid themselves from feeling and experiencing in the present. Clients take part of their own therapy to whatever degree is possible and they impose their rules to shape their own styles, and determine their own significance. In the end, clients come to face with their present struggles of unfinished business from their past.

The goal of the Gestalt theory is to assist clients in gaining moment-to-moment awareness and challenge clients accept responsibility for internal support not based on external support. One of the most important goals for Gestalt is focused on the present that is centered on the here and now. This kind of therapy is not on talking around what has happened, but on fully experiencing both what is, and what can be. This revolves around communication technique that deal with the existing problems one is involved with. Therefore, it brings to light the client choices and elections, which they have done that have brought them to be where they are in the present. As the client becomes mindful of their issues under their own will, they will then be more able to set attainable goals to move their life in a positive direction.

The counselor responsibilities is to bring clients into a scene, pointing them to learn about themselves by taking an approach to life in which they can find out new behaviors and see what
