Week 6 Lab

SEC280

Professor

I went in to class in Queens not knowing what to expect, we are usually at the main campus. It was pretty interesting what I have learned in this week in class. The Professor had set up the computer for the class to be able to config ip address to it. The purpose was for to learn how connect within a small network and to see how easy it is for an intruder to attack the network. We were able to communicate with each by pinging the ip address. The Professor showed us how to attack another by picking an ip address and typing a set of commands.

There was three students demonstrating different ways on how to attack computer and the network. The first student showed us a hardware that attaches between the computer and the keyboard. He was able to copy everything that person was typing from the moment the devices was connected. The second student used two software via the internet to attack one of the computer. He was able to control the entire computer remotely. The final student did something similar like the second student but he used a micro sd card to activate the program.

As we were executing the commands, I realized how important it is to protect and secure the computer and it data. I mean I know security was important but didn’t know how important it was until I was in class this week. The professor show use a that we can scan the port to see which one are open but he also said hackers use this method to breach the network. What I learned in class this week opened my eyes even more on taking security much more serious. I came home that day and redid my network’s security. I started to eliminate any application that are running and leaving any ports open. What I learned in class is just not for my home but it is going to help me in my career and help me better understand what to look for. I am more aware of who is around me and the network. I think it is good to say thinking outside the box will me be...
