One would think that when it comes to Texas, the people backed their state. I always hear the people of Texas saying, they’re so proud to be Texans. But the turn out at the polls is indubitably dreadful. Texans doesn’t support their officials not even at the local level. It makes me think. Does Texas want to be an independent state so bad, that it really doesn’t matter whom in office. This is the second largest state after California. When will Texans realize how powerful their state could be if everyone come together at the polls.

Nothing really matters to the voters of Texas except when it comes to Presidential election. Presidential elections usually draw more voters then state, local or congressional elections. That’s the only time when Texans meet at the polls. During the 2012 election, 49.7 percent of eligible voters turned out but the national rate were 58.2 percent. In the political race between Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were on the Republican ballot they received 57.2 percent of the vote in Texas in 2012. During the Obama and McCain election in 2008 that’s was the biggest turnout at the polls ever at 61 percent.(www.wikipediavoterturnout.org) Voters were wrap around buildings waiting to cast their ballet. People all over America were ready for change and went to the polls during that election. Maybe the Texans will come out only when they see the economy need a change.

Texas has the lowest voter turnout rates and the fifth largest increase in the number of provisional ballots that were not accepted. The provisional ballet is when voters fail to show photo id, the voter name doesn’t appear on electoral roll, voters ballot has already been recorded.
