Origins of the Vietnam War, 1950-1963

As World War II ended, other American political issues arose which began the Vietnam War. This war was “the damn worse mess” in history[1]. The U.S. and Vietnamese experienced hundreds-thousands of causalities from this war. The U.S. was involved in the Vietnam War because we despised Communist groups. Southeast Asia, which is called Indochina, was comprised of three nations “Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia”[2]. Vietnam was separated with the North (communist controlled) and the South (anti-communist). When the U.S government went to battle in Vietnam, it was because we “feared the growth of Communism”[3]. These actions lead to the beginning of the U.S. involvement because it was in violation of what we stood for. As a nation against communism; we will do whatever it takes to defend our beliefs.

North Vietnam was “proclaimed independent by communist Ho Chi Minh”, which was also the “founder of the Indochina communist party”[4]. North Vietnam privileges were cut off from the agricultural benefit of South Vietnam. When the U.S. avenged against the North Vietnam to uphold the Truman Doctrine, they ignored foreign policy of isolationism, with Communist threats[5]. North Vietnam “proved” to be an opposition to American “political morals” because of their beliefs of communism and America’s anti-communism beliefs[6]. North Vietnam came under the control of the Vietnamese Communists, which had opposed France and aimed to consolidate Vietnam under Communist rules. The idea was for North Vietnam to unify the North and South Vietnam through military force with an aim to create a communist society. Due to the fear that the spread of communism called “Red Scare” in Asia may arise, the U.S. provided economic and military aid to South Vietnam to prevent a possible take-over by North Vietnam[7].
