Danaher Corporate Reorganization
Danaher, a corporation that is a leader in strategic segments, such as Test & Measurement, Environmental, Dental, Life Sciences & Diagnostics and Industrial Technologies has proven their ability to maintain a market share large enough to sustain their growth and success. There is no doubt that the business of the company is a major factor as to their longevity, but because the pursuit of more efficient methods in organizing, structuring, and doing business is ever-constant, Danaher faces the same question that all other companies face: where can the organization improve the way it does business? An investigation of the organization reveals that Danaher’s corporate structure is a source for improvement as its current organization is not as efficient as it could be because of several highly-specified positions that are positioned high in the chain of command. Through the restructuring of this chain—mainly through consolidation and repositioning—Danaher’s infrastructure will be able to function much faster as a conduit for conveying information quickly from the tiers of position.
At the head of Danaher’s Corporate Organizational Structure, is the CEO who governs the company, and immediately under his command are the Senior Vice Presidents of Human Resources, Accounting, Finance and Tax, General Counsel and Corporate Development. In the next tier is the Executive Vice Presidents of each specialized division and within those specialty fields of Professional Instrumentation, Industrial Technologies and Test and Measurement are the strategic segments. Below these are different businesses that pertain to these specialized segments. Because the bottom three tiers are specialized to this degree, it would be impossible to reposition or consolidate in these areas to ensure an efficient information network.
