Executive Summary

In 1989, DOTC planned to construct a light railway transit line along EDSA, a major thoroughfare in Metropolitan Manila, which shall traverse the cities of Pasay, Quezon, Mandaluyong and Makati. The plan, referred to as EDSA Light Rail Transit III (EDSA LRT III), was intended to provide a mass transit system along EDSA and alleviate the congestion and growing transportation problem in the metropolis.

This project will discuss the fare collection system which will be utilize to help make it quicker and easier for customers to pay for and use their systems and, thereby, to increase ridership and/or revenues; reduce fare evasion and fraud; reduce internal and external theft; reduce the cost of maintaining their fare collection equipment; improve management information for decision-making; and generate new non-fare revenues.
