Define the following terms:

1. Pathogenesis is the pattern of a disease’s development.

2. Remission is when a chronic disease shows a change in temperature (reversal) that looks to be a recovery.

3. Epidemiology is the “study of occurrence, distribution, and transmission of diseases in humans”.

4. Pathophysiology is the study about the main physiological processes of diseases.

Compare and contrast the following terms:

1. Signs vs. Symptoms

a. Comparisons:

i. They are both characterized as abnormalities.

b. Contrasts:

ii. Signs can be seen by someone other than the person who has it.

iii. Symptoms can only be felt by the person.

2. Acute vs. Chronic

c. Comparisons:

iv. Nothing is really similar about these two except for the signs and the symptoms appearing.

d. Contrasts:

v. Signs and symptoms appear suddenly and disappear after little time in acute diseases.
