With the exception of wages and salaries, employee benefits are the primary factor for employers to attract and retain qualified personnel for their organization. Employee benefits can cost above 30% of each employees payroll. Benefits are expensive and with our health care costs raising the cost will go even higher hence why employers always look for ways to cut down on payroll. Some benefits are required by law, while other benefits are offered to maintain and recruit new talents as well as standing out amongst competitors.

The required benefits by law are Social Security, workers compensation and unemployment insurance benefits. Since organizations understand the importance of offering great benefit package in addition to mandated benefits they also offer health insurance, retirement, and vacation. To take the benefit package to the next level and shine against the competitors, organizations offer some other special benefits such as; tuition reimbursement, free personal technology, health and wellness programs, paid community service hours and many more. The company I currently work for offers all the basic benefits offered through well established organization as well as special benefits such as; tuition reimbursement for up to five thousand a year, health and wellness programs at no cost, quarterly employee appreciation events and as their employee we get to take advantage of life care which offers related discounts such as booking flights, hotels, theme park tickets, shopping, gym memberships, technology discounts and other personal related discounts. With offering the mentioned benefits the company attracts and retains valued employees. Now that my company offers me all those wonderful benefits I feel valued and appreciated by my company, and if I were to look for other opportunities it becomes harder to go to a competitor who does not offer me all these great benefits that I have.
