Abstract

Organizational culture is a dificult term to describe, but very easy to sense. Both leaders and managers are responsible for creating a positive and healthy culture. It is also the responsibility of employees to maintain a strong culture. An organizational culture can begin with a company’s vision, mission, and purpose. It is understood that organizational culture are difficult to build and even harder to maintain, but with the right amount of encouragement and leadership it can be attained. This paper discusses the organizational culture of Wal-Mart and how the company has been able to maintain a strong culture through the team work of the employees.

Management and Leadership

In order to be a successful manager one is required to have great management and leadership skills. Both management and leader can be confused for the same ability. However, a great manager will possess a variety of leadership skills to motivate his or her team to perform at the best of their abilities to attain effective and efficient results. Some managers are just that, managers, and have not learned the importance of leading and motivating employees. The presented discussion will examine the difference between the two and the importance of a positive corporate culture to retain highly effective employees.

Managers can be found in every company. Managers are put in place to govern employees and reach department goals. “Management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals” (Bateman and Snell, 2010, p.12). The two primary goals of management are to be effective and efficient. When a manger has achieved goals he or she can be considered effective. A manager is considered efficient when he or she has achieved goals with little or no waste of employees, time, or money.
