As everyone knows, in life there are many choices to be made. Some of these choices can hinder our emotional and mental growth. You can either choose the road less traveled, or commit the greatest commitment sin, infidelity. In this essay, I will compare the use of literary elements in two similar, yet different, poems. These poems are “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost and “My Wicked Wicked Ways” by Sandra Cisneros. Also in this essay, I will talk about both authors.

Robert Frost (March 26, 1874- January 29, 1963) was a renowned American poet. He was highly regarded for his depictions of rural American life and his command of American colloquial speech. His works employed setting of rural life in New England in the early twentieth century. He used these settings to examine complex social and philosophical themes. Currently and previously in publication, Robert Frost penned 133 poems, this includes “The Road Not Taken.” Despite his association with rural life in his poems, Robert Frost lived in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Sandra Cisneros (born December 20, 1954) is an American who is best known for her novel “The House on Mango Street.” She was the third child of seven, and the only girl. She was the only surviving daughter. Her work experiments with literary form and investigates emerging subject positions. She attributes this to growing up in a context of cultural hybridity and economic inequality that had endowed her with unique stories to tell.

She is the recipient of numerous awards including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. She is also regarded as a key figure in Chicana literature. Her childhood gave...
