Willow Creek Case Study

The case study over Willow Creek show many different constraints that are postponing the answer to what really makes a difference in the church. Willow Creek has a very clear vision and specific goals that deal with the outreach and its congregation. ‘Willow was devoted to attracting seekers and helping them along the journey toward conversion and spiritual maturity’ (Meehan 2012, pg. 1). Willow Creek’s focus was on what the next step of progression would be.

They have reached heights of building structures to hold the growing congregation, bringing new members to Christ, and developing them into believers. So what’s next? As I reviewed this case study I made a few suggestions of how they could answer the questions. First, we should recognize the constraints of the situation. Willow Creek has started the initial stages of a strategic plan of how they would utilize the new building that was almost finished being built. ‘How are we doing to use this beautiful new space to reach out community and impact our world’ (Meehan 2012, pg. 5). I feel Willow Creek is on the right track with the strategic plan that is laid out in the case study, but the constraints can delay the process. I recognized the members and non-members, the advertisements/promotions, and the hesitation of both parties to be constraints. My suggestions would be to reach out and ask the current congregation where they would like go. I would also reach out to people who are not members and see what it would take to get them to join or what they would like to see happen since Willow Creek has a large presence in the community. I like the fact that Willow Creek looks for ‘drivers of spiritual growth’ as well as ‘needs’ and the people. In order to take the next step as a whole it is important to gather ideas, see what areas need to be fixed, and find solutions.
