THE NEED FOR NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE (NYS) TRAINING FOR UNIVERSITY COHORTS

          Education and peace are indispensable! They are essential in development discourse in our contemporary world. Therefore, in the quest to achieve the goals in combating and addressing causes and impacts of disasters attributed to human instigated hazards including community upheavals, ethnic clashes, and issues of national security, governments in conjunction with the sovereign citizens needs to appraise, mobilise and adopt cordial approaches in mitigating these challenges. Parliaments should be in the lead in enacting and amending laws that permit enrollment of all university cohorts in the National Youth Service (NYS) training prior to their admission in institutions of higher learning. Nonetheless, NYS as it is known plays a central dimension and pivotal role in dissemination of skills on disasters preparedness, moral rectitude, and life skills which inform how people should lead a principal life cascading to social, political and economic development of the country. This will open up opportunities for majority of students who did not qualify for higher education to be empowered and capacity built on how to cope up and be competent people in the society. NYS should be effectively accredited and structured with mandate of identifying and nurturing talents to enable all students and youths to realise their talents and dreams as well as acquisition of expertise which serve as a benchmark for the country’s productivity thus propelling as well as transforming their countries towards achieving the development vision.   

                 Intrinsically, NYS should be devolved from national to the county government administration to offer a variety of workshops and trainings which deal with core courses that are salient in community development.
