Life Cycle

In the following paper, I will be writing about the life cycle and the understanding of what exactly impacts an individual. I will be explaining three major concepts such as how self-determination impacts an individual’s ability to negotiate challenges in each life cycle successfully. I will then finish the paper up with how autonomy impacts an individual’s ability to successfully to negotiate challenges in each life cycle and how policies and legislation could impact the family during each life cycle.

Self-determination

Like everything in life, there are stages one must go through before entering the next one. With self-determination, it starts the minute you are born until about eighteen months old. The first eighteen months of a baby’s life they start to develop trust, confidence in doing things, security of the ones who are caring for them. If a baby does not get the things he or she needs then sadly they will grow up feeling insecure, and not be trusting of others. Those who were taken care of properly gain self-confidence early on and continue with that attitude through the rest of the stages through life. Individuals will learn early on about self-determination and will learn how to make their own choices and learn how to problem-solve and learn how to address problems correctly.

Autonomy

Autonomy vs. shame is moving on with this stage it last from eighteen months until about five years old. At this point, toddlers begin to learn about self-esteem and autonomy as they learn about what is the difference between right and wrong. If a child is taken care of correctly, they will learn how to carry themselves and have confidence and high self-esteem, if not them may lack self-confidence and not sure of themselves.
