Proper Use of Decanter Centrifuge in Drilling Mud Purification System

Centrifuges are often used in drilling operations, KOSUN Decanter Centrifuge is usually used for separating solid particles diameter ≥2μm suspension in drilling mud, as well as drilling mud handling. For oilfield and industrial services, it is especially effective in environmentally sensitive areas. High recovery rate, solids control effectively, it significantly reduce mud supplement and handling costs.

"Traditional centrifuge" removes harmful ultrafine particles from barite and low specific gravity solids and most liquid composition and glial particles.

Although the composition of the solid particles (particular ingredient as measured by the dry distillation) are useful parameters, but the adverse effects of the solid rheology and water loss is a function of the total surface area of the particle, rather than a solid particle content itself. The smaller the average particle size, the greater the surface area. Unfortunately, in terms of the particle size of the dry distillation method does not tell us anything.

This is correspond with the increases of the surface area of the solid particles. The solid phase material in the drilling fluid is impacted by the decreasing of the particle size, even if the content of the solid particles is maintained, it will have a very negative effect on the drilling fluid's quality. We have observed how the borehole conditions deteriorate over time. When the drilling mud aging and its solid particles become finer, the cause of deterioration of borehole conditions is believed primarily due to the increasing surface area of solid particles in the slurry.

Removal of colloidal particles and ultrafine particles in addition to reducing solid plastic viscosity and dilution requirements, will also improve permeability and cake quality, thereby reducing torque and drag. This improves the borehole conditions, reducing the risk of sticking.
