1) The organisation is going through a change (i.e the working hours shift). It is evidently seen that the workers are resisting the change. They have raised concerns and dissatisfaction and frustration at the company’s change of working hours. This lead to low morale among the workers.

Firstly, they faced the loss of something valuable to them – their worklife balance. Under the old working hours, the workers are able to spend their time with their family and don’t disrupt their personal lives. The new working shift hours had cause disruption to their household configurations. They need to employ baby-sitters, making arrangements to fetch their kids, etc. This causes the feeling of unhappiness as the change not only affects them but their family as well. They see the organisation as not pro-family and sensitive to their needs.

The change also instils a sense of fear or uncertainty of the future. Without any consultation or feedbacks from the workers before implementing the shift hours, this came in as a shocker to them. The workers fear that there will be other “shocking” changes in the future and they will have adaptability issues. They fear that they will eventually lose their job or the situation forced them to resign. They felt that somehow they are being forced to agree to these new working hours and that the organisation isn’t doing much to create a condusive working environment for them and the only interest is to drive up productivity and profits at the expense of the workers’ welfare.
