Nature or nurture

Are we born human with a high intelligence and the abilities to use a large range of tools? Or are we simply animals who only learn our skills through socialization with civilized humans?

In this essay I will cover how nature and nurture can alter how we behave and which influences how we behave the most, I will also cover the cases of feral children in which children who have either been abandoned or got lost have been brought up by animals of sometimes a completely unrelated species to humans.

Nurture

Using cases of feral children, there are lots of points, which support the fact, that maybe we are truly just animals that in the right circumstances can act just like other species. Young humans have an ability to be able to mimic the characteristics of other species allowing then to survive where older people would not. Usually the animals are mothers whose children have been lost or killed so have an overwhelming motherly urge. Children who have no intimate contact with other humans during their first 4 years, usually never get used to contact with other humans after living with animals for so long. This proves that socialization and civilised abilities aren’t imprinted in our D.N.A but that unless you are around others people then you can never truly learn.

Nature

Are we just animals or are we something more imprinted in our D.N.A, we must even in feral children have a human core at the centre of us which can never be truly lost. For as we are the children of thousands of generations then we could expect we would be wired with certain abilities of which have been passed down to us. If we look at the “Jim twins” real life scenario then the results almost outright prove the case for nature, the Jim twins were separated at birth but led very similar lives. Both married and divorced women with the same names, they also named their sons almost exactly the same, both had a dog named toy and both drove the same car....
