Serious thinking is the ability of people to decisively make decisions about what to consider or how to turn in reply to explanations, involvements, oral or written languages, or influences. This ability is significant to people to make good and moral choices. Without serious thinking, people are vulnerable to making immoral choices. These wrong situations can happen anywhere but are most frequently seen in the office setting. These circumstances include financial issues, misuses of expertise, and workplace management. Sadly, most individuals have not learned serious thinking techniques and do not until they have arrived at college (Elder, & Paul, 2006).
An example of a lack of critical thinking, which led to a moral problem, happened in my life a few years before I began my schooling at University of Phoenix. I was working at a furniture company and I had been there for a while when a new office assistant was hired. The new assistant was a nice person but was very new to the office setting. From the time that she was hired, she was seen as a threat by other office assistants. The owners took a liking to her right away and immediately gave her more and more responsibilities. Because of this, the other office assistants assumed that she was a risk to their positions at the company. During this time I admit that I was not as unbiased and I needed critical, rational thinking skills. Because of my lack of critical thinking skills, it was difficult to be unbiased and I fell victim to ‘group think’ encouraged by the other office assistants.
As I considered this thinking about the new assistant, I began watching everything she did in a doubtful fashion. I began thinking that every time she was being polite and offered to help me, she was actually just trying to take my position within the company.
