What does Gastronomy mean to you? To me gastronomy means the study of the relationship between cultures and the food they eat. In picture 1, you can see there are praying on the floor before they eat their meal. This is interesting to me as it gives a good insight into different cultures eating habits. So is the theme of my poster. Picture 2 is a common sign to all of us, McDonalds has ingrained itself so much into western culture that you can’t walk down the street without coming across one, or two, if you’re talking about are very own O’Connell street. Much like this picture is picture 3, A take out box, which I am sure most people are familiar with, Take a ways like Chinese being a unique style, based on a different cultures cuisine. Even if it is not the same type as served in their home countries, examples of these are in pictures, 4, 5 and 6, these are the parts of other cultures that have made their way into our own, through food and that is what gastronomy means to me. Staying on the topic of Asian foods, Sushi (picture 7) is a food that has more recently become very popular. It is so popular in fact that people create art using sushi (Picture 8) and it is a trend. Sushi is an example of one of the foods that get people talking about food, whether you absolutely love it or can’t stand the thought of it, it gets people talking about food, which is another point of gastronomy to me, It’s people not only acknowledging food but reviling. The photo of the Christmas dinner, picture 9, is another meal and experience nearly all of us talk about and plan for, it’s one of the most important dinners/meals cooked in the home each year. So many people plan their days around this meal, and t would be wrong talk about gastronomy and not Christmas dinner, as it is nearly a ritual and isn’t that what gastronomy is about, food traditions of cultures.
