Proudly walked across the stage with a huge smile from ear to ear four months ago from Fredonia. After four years of hard work, I felt my college days came and went so fast. Post graduation, I would say my life has changed greatly since. I consider myself to be fortunate. More importantly, I feel well-off in my young career; something that many graduates don’t typically say a few months after graduation. Here is my story and why going back to my old stomping grounds was different, yet bittersweet.

May 17, 2014 was graduation day. My parents, family, and boyfriend all drove from Rochester to Fredonia that morning to attend the commencement ceremony, but more so, spend the day and night celebrating with me. As happy as I was to graduate, the day came and went too fast, as I felt most of my college career already did. The following day was definitely a reality check as I packed up my apartment of two years, said goodbye to my room-mates of three years, and headed back to Rochester for good.

Getting a job out of college…

At that time, I still was on the job hunt. I was somewhat bummed that as many of my peers had already found jobs before graduation. I, however, had not, and really did not have a game plan besides apply anywhere and everywhere. In the mean time, I was working almost full time hours at the restaurant I had worked at during the summer months and holidays I was home during college. Although it was great money, I was ready to transition into my real career and put my degree into use.

It was now June. My first “big girl in the real world” moment post-graduation at this point was leasing a car. But this car was not just any car. To this day, I still cannot believe how I was able to manage such a great deal, but I am so happy I did!Dorschel Lexus was doing a promotion for college grads and giving them $2,000 towards specific models.
