INTRODUCTION

This code of ethics describe standards of conduct for security guards and all other law enforcement professionals that operates under the Private Security Regulation Authority(PSRA) in Jamaica. Many of the policies in this code are based on various laws and regulations, while others are based on business and ethical principles that will enhance the ability of the country’s security companies to conduct its operations effectively.

The purpose of this code is to provide guidance and set common ethical standards each security guard must adhere to on a consistent basis. It governs the actions and working relationships of security officers, and all other law enforcement officials employed to provide security and protection. It will deal with issues concerning professionalism, use of force, the good name and brand of the country’s security companies.

The need for developing this code is as a result of the numerous negative reports and complains regarding security guards in the performance of their duties. Therefore the effort is made to transform these companies into a highly respected and competitive one.
