Cancer Early Detection

Cancer is a subject that is discussed very often in many families because they may have lost someone to this disease. There has been much discussion by many organizations early detection can save lives or is it a proven fact? Many people can elude this disease by knowing the high risk factors of developing it. Making sure a love one gets tested without suggesting it is an obligation would be a good start too.

This research is to identify why early detection and education can help save lives. The American Cancer Society defines Cancer as “A group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells.”. Cancer ratio in African-American is higher than that of Whites and it is not because people of that race do not take care of themselves. Many African-Americans do not have insurance providers and cannot seek annual check-ups like their White counterparts. Almost 80 percent of cancers are due to factors that have been well-known and can possibly be controlled. Not only do we have the prospective to prevent most cancers, we can also increase the survival rates of people who have cancer. According to an article printed by the Journal of National Cancer Institute in 1999, it is suggested, “Stage of diagnosis is one of the most important prognostic factors for most cancers. For many cancers; early stage disease can be effectively treated with good chance for cure, whereas late stage disease is generally incurable. Therefore, understanding the factors of cancer stage at diagnosis is an important objective to improve cancer outcomes.”

Race and insurance has a roll in why people take the option of not getting screened for cancer, but is this really a factor especially when they have insurance? Moreover, people with insurance...
