In case study 1, Josephine prefers being alone as opposed to being around others or in social groups. She has a Schizoid personality disorder, or a person sometimes thought of as a “loner”. This type of disorder is characterized as someone being detached from social relationships. An individual with this disorder will refrain from close relationships, they have difficulty in showing emotions, difficulty in showing anger or affection. They lack pleasure in activities, lack friends, have no desire for a sexual relationship, having a family or getting married. It’s almost as if they feel nothing but wanting to be alone. This disorder is found more in males than females and with age, the extreme symptoms will decrease.

In case study 2, Luis is considered by many to be overly conceited and arrogant. He has a Narcissistic personality disorder. Luis considers himself to be extremely important and feels he should be admired and be the center of attention all the time. People with this disorder often have problems in relationships and at work because they feel a sense of entitlement and should be treated special. They need the best of everything. When they don’t have things they think they deserve or are not treated as highly as they think they should, they become angry. They do not take criticism well.

In case study 3, Anissa survived a horrible car accident which caused her a lot of trauma. She has a Samatoform disorder which pain can’t be explained with medical certainty. The pain is real but even with tests, it can’t be pinpointed or proven. Psychological factors along with stress can also enhance feelings of pain. People with this disorder might go to the doctor more often than normal, isolate themselves from others and might start to have problems with family members or co-workers.
