Chinese Dynasties – 581 Through 1279
The dynasties during the years 581 through 1279 had a significant impact on the history of China. The Sui Dynasty was established in China in 581 after four centuries of internal strife and war. Unified under Yang Jian, the capital was established in Chang’an and the impact was felt throughout all of China. The new emperor established a unifying ideology through Buddhism and Daoism and established monasteries and allowed monks to be part of the political system. The emperor also established a centralized administrative system, abolishing the privileges of the rule of noble families and introducing an imperial system that allowed for the appointment of civil servants. This innovative system was to be used by subsequent Chinese dynasties for the next 1,300 years.
