Text: Living in the Environment (Miller)
Goals:
1. To educate the student with the general principles of ecological science.
2. To encourage critical thinking skills using hands-on activities.
3. To reinforce classroom learning through real world applications.
4. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- The nature of science
- Basic issues in Environmental Studies
- Thinking critically about the environment
- Systems and change
-Structure, function, and reproduction of plants, animals, and microorganisms within the ecosystem
-Ecology: interdependence of organisms, humans, and the environment
Requirements:
1. All students must have the opportunity to learn. All students will be held accountable for behaviors that will keep other students from learning.
2. Class participation is essential for maximum benefit and will be evaluated.
3. Students must turn in quality assignments. A student has two school days to submit reworked assignments for partial credit.
4. Students will be expected to come to class on time and prepared.
5. Students will be responsible for all make-up work missed when absent. There will be an “Assignment Board” posted in the classroom where all previous assignments will be posted.
6. Students will be assigned homework from 2 – 4 times per week. Late homework will be penalized 10% of the grade per day that it is late unless the student was absent the previous day. Most homework should be done even when absent since they will be assigned in advance and due on specific days.
