Debate Winners: Cons

As was decided by our group, the con side of the effects of music can have one our youth was the winner. By looking at the facts, it has shown that music can have more of a negative effect on our youth than a positive one. Even though these effects can be warned off through proper guidance, some of the effects we cannot control.

Music can provide a natural high for many. However, when children, teens and adolescent mix music and drugs together it is often a recipe for disaster. Especially when their so called role models demonstrate reckless behavior. These behaviors include the use of drugs, guns, alcohol and even negative verbiage in their music videos and songs. The impact of such actions are imitated daily with some children. These actions can have a long term effect throughout their life in school, work, and even society. Furthermore, drugs continue to be a concern as more teens and young adults become hooked on their drug of choice. Many of these include marijuana, heroin, and prescription pills. These drugs can cause a lot of issues in a short and extended period of time if not addressed and handled appropriately. One of the problems is that children are often left alone for various reasons with no supervision. In order to change these negative images one must change several things. For instance, parents would need to take position to create a positive atmosphere in their children’s lives. An example of this would be to include the regulation of what their children are listening to. The bottom line would be for the influencing people in their lives to set a clean and decent example for a child to look up, versus a poor example that could possibly lead someone down the wrong path.
