Marginality: Some people at the margin, or the edge or a culture. They don't really belong to that culture. You find marginality in multicultural societies. Marginality and creativity is associated with multiculatist societies. Such societies are likely to be more dynamic.

Marginal individuals are more likely to be more creative in all arts of life (science, literature, music , etc).

Home culture of an immigrant is the culture he was socialized in. Primary adn secondary socialization takes place in the same culture. Result is conformity or norms. Over socialized people are more likely to follow culture(kind off liek a computer being well programmed to do something).

Home culture is likely to be a lot different than host culture. But that is not the case for young children who immigrate with their parents and people who were born here. For them, the adjustment process is very easy.

Marginal person is partially socialized by home and host cultures, in an overall sense. These individuals don't identify themselves with either home or host cultures. They prefer to be 'outsiders'.

Outsiders make good sociologists, because they are not overwhelmed by whats right or wrong.

Paradox culture. Culture has both "positive" and "negative" atrributes.

Positive side: We can't get by without culture. People deprived of socialization can't walk, think, talk.

Downside: Culture can turn us into robots. Robots cant create, they just follow rules.

Marginal person picks up the positive, creative attributes of culture, and avoids the negative consequences of culture.

See list of famous musicians of intranet. Blacks were marginalized due to racism.
