Why Productivity Matters

1. From time to time, various groups clamor for import restrictions for tariff on foreign produced goods, particularly automobiles. How might these be helpful? Harmful it might be helpful because that way more of the US made vehicles will be sold. It might be harmful to me because if they put restrictions on it the country isn’t making any money if they do by just keeping the cars to themselves.

2. List the key ways that organizations compete? One example is where I live there two gas stations on the same block so the way they compete is by the price for gas and one stealing their customers. The key ways of competing is identifying consumer want or needs which is the basic input in the business; price and quality is the key factor and advertising and promotion are ways the business can inform the public about their products.

3. Explain the importance of identifying and differentiating order qualifiers and order winners. The best thing to do is to formulate a successful strategy, organizations must take into account both order and qualifiers and order winners. Order winners are the ones that have potential customers perceive as minimum standards of acceptability for product to be considered for purchase. Order winners are those organizations goods and services that cause them to be perceived as better than the other. Price, delivery, reliability, speed, and quality can be the order winner, once you have a company that is meeting your needs you are naturally going to stick with them. (textbook chapter 2)

4. Select two stores you shop at and state how they compete? For instance I shop for clothing online, there are a few that I use and jump back and forth until I find what I want. I don’t know if these two companies are competing but I do know you would always go and see free shipping, 70% on shoes or clothing, or one would have buy one get the other free.
