Evaluating Performance through Motivation

Motivation plays an important role in organizational behavior. In today’s business world many workers waste a considerable amount of time because they lack motivation. This is why organizations should make every effort to apply motivation theories to motivate their employees to complete tasks and achieve goals. Another important factor of organizational behavior is conflict management. Conflict can be positive of negative and it is the task of the manager to solve conflicts in the early stages, so the situation will not escalate.

Motivation Theories and Organizational Behavior

The most famous theories come from the “needs theories”, which are motivation theories that identify the kinds of needs people have and the state in which they want to represent these needs (Quisenberry, p. 1. 2010). It is important that managers understand the different aspects of theories and how to apply them in organizational behavior. Motivation theories are put into two different categories, which are content theories and process theories. Content theory focuses more on individual needs like job security. The process theory helps understand thought processes that influence behavior (Romando, 2007).

Different organizations apply motivation theories to motivate employees

“Frederick Herzberg’s two-factor theory of motivation,” is a controversial theory (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2008, p. 133). Scholars argue that job-enrichment is not for everyone in the workplace. However, Herzberg’s theory is appealing because it takes into consideration giving employees more responsibility to do their own planning and evaluate their duties. Personal growth and recognition are key factors in this theory and acknowledges the employees desire to take control of their position within the company....
