BIOLOGY ADVENTURE

A balanced diet is very important to healthy living. It ensures that the individual gets all the required nutrients for good health. A lot of people simply eat according to their likes and dislikes, but the disadvantage of such a practice is that it often leads to an unbalanced diet. A balanced refers to a diet that includes a wide variety of foods in the right proportions and the right amount of foods and drinks to maintain a healthy weight. Eating a wide variety of foods does not mean that a person is eating a balanced diet. A balanced diet can still lead to a greater calorie intake than what is required to maintain body weight, therefore, it is important to monitor the types of food being consumed and also the calories associated with each type of food. An unbalanced diet deprives the body of the essential nutrients that it needs to function at an optimum level. Quite often people tend to consume their preferred foods in greater quantities than all other foods, which leads to meeting the calorie intake requirement, but it is still an unbalanced diet. For example, some people eat chicken on a regular basis but do not consume the right amount of vegetables. Usually, an unbalanced diet results in a deficit of some required vitamins and other nutrients, such as iron, calcium, and fiber.

Based on the number of calories that I consumed yesterday, I would eventually lose weight if I were to maintain the same net calorie intake every day. However, I think that my weight is normal for my height and body type, so I do not intend to lose weight in the near future. Therefore, I need to reconsider my diet and make sure that I consume sufficient calories to sustain my current weight. I also do not intend to cut down my current routine of daily activities, so in order to maintain my weight, I would have to increase my calorie intake while ensuring that I follow a balanced diet plan.
