Communication Theory

Communication theory is the process whereby one system influences another system by regulation of the transmitted signals. Communication theory is essentially about understanding how meaning is structured, created, interpreted and understood. It is about fundamental meaning within which all other activity takes place. Communication theory is one of the important topics of organization behavior. Effective communication theory is a prerequisite for implementing organizational strategies as well as for managing day-to-day activities through people. Communication can be done through various outlets. Some examples of how it can be sent are via the computer, mail or telephone. It can also be direct (face to face). As a soldier in the United States Army I am exposed to many different types of communication process. Some of the communications methods that are used in the Army are emails, telephone and face-to-face. Being in an organization where there are over five hundred thousand employees stationed all over the world, there is definitely a need to communicate information accurately, quickly and efficiently. The Internet has made a big impact on communication theory because of emails. This method of passing information and technology reduces the time spent communicating and is more effective than other previously used methods. The Army was built on team and group communication. In the Army it is important that everyone be on the same page when it comes to information. If soldiers don’t receive mission essential information that is being put out by commanding officers in a timely manner, this can jeopardize the mission.
