Week 9- Capstone Question

HTT/240

Krystena Sterling

The restaurant industry can be plagued by many challenges including safety, menu options and planning, purchasing, services and facilities. Proper planning during the initial build phases can eliminate some of these issues, however, proper management is needed to ensure that the restaurant is operated efficiently.

Of the restaurants that were originally chosen, I am going to provide an improvement plan for Sonic Drive-In. While the other restaurants have points that could be improved upon, I feel this is the one that could stand the most changes. The biggest area of concern as a consumer for this establishment is the efficiency of service and the inventory procedures that are followed.

Although they are touted as a fast food service restaurant, additional training could be provided for both the management as well as front line employees to increase the rate at which orders are completed. Although according to QSR, national fast food service times have seen a decrease by almost eight seconds, our local Sonic takes much longer than any other area drive through ("Fast Food Service Time Slows down with Move toward Premium Menu Items - QSR magazine," n.d.). The article further goes on to explain that part of this trend could be attributed to more “premium” item offerings on the menu that take longer to prepare. Further, this Sonic would benefit from more stringent inventory processes to eliminate the possibility of running out of popular food items, which seems to be a regular occurrence.

Through proper training and monitoring of trends, both positive and negative, management can improve the customer experience and build brand recognition and loyalty.
