Workplace Motivation

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (2013), motivation is defined as a force or influence that causes someone to do something. Motivation can happen in the personal or in the business environment. In the business environment, the management team is often expected to motivate his or her team. Motivation is used to get the employees to do complete tasks that they are not normally assigned to do.

Individuals are motivated to work for a certain reasons. Money is one of the main reasons some individuals are motivated to work. Some individuals love the job and that motivates them. Some motivation comes from the enjoyment of helping others.

Making more money motivates individuals to further his or her education. A degree is a reason for receiving a higher pay. The more money an individual makes motivates him or her to do a better job as well as work harder.

Receiving recognition for doing a good job is a motivation for some individuals. Recognition can be a raise, praise, and promotions. Working for a company that makes employees feel secure as well as providing a decent salary are what individuals look for in working for a company.

Motivating employees is an important issue for company. The morale of employees can affect the success of any company. This affect can be positive or negative. In order for a company to be successful and profitable, the employees must be happy with their working conditions. If employees are not happy many things can happen such as a decrease in productivity, low morale, and stress.

I have worked for FedEx for 15 years. In the beginning of my employment, there were many motivational activities in place. These activities included monthly luncheons, holiday decorating contests, team fundraising contests, popcorn, hot beverages, and many others. There has been a decrease in...
