Country vs. Pop Music

“According to dictionary.com, country music is a style and genre of largely string-accompanied American popular music having roots in the folk music of the Southeast and cowboy music of the West, usually vocalized, generally simple in form and harmony, and typified by romantic or melancholy ballads accompanied by acoustic or electric guitar, banjo, violin, and harmonica.” With that said, there are a lot of country songs that have more upbeat tunes, as well, such as “All-American Girl” by Carrie Underwood and “Wild at Heart” by Gloriana. Also, most country songs do not have explicit content, but some songs do, such as “Baggage Claim” by Miranda Lambert and “Stronger Woman” by Jewel.

“According to dictionary.com, pop music is music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock 'n' roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.” With that said, there are a lot of pop songs that have slower tunes, as well, such as “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran and “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. In fact, more pop artists are beginning to dive more into country music, such as Sheryl Crow. Also, a lot of pop songs contain explicit content, but some songs do not, such as “Halo” by Beyonce and “Rolling In The Deep” by Adele.

Pop is not really a genre of music. Truthfully, it is used just for popular songs at the time. Also, the lyrics are repeated a lot in some pop songs, such as “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis and “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith.

In my opinion, country music is much better. It mostly uses acoustic instruments, which gives the song a softer, more peaceful, slower, and more natural sound. Also, it is lyric based, which means that the lyrics come more from the artist. It also means that the song is more truthful and meaningful.
