Cyber bullying

I would like to choose the topic “cyber bullying” as my research proposal. Cyber bullying is defined as a use of technology to threaten, harass, target, and or embarrass another person. The emotional and psychological outcomes of cyber bullying are very similar to those of real life bullying. It seems that real life bullying tends to end when the school day ends. However, cyber bullying has no escape. This problem is becoming worse, especially due to the amount of time that children are on computers and other electronic devises.

Bullies have been around forever, but technology has given a brand new platform to perform many actions. We must realize that both real world and now online bullying has serious emotional and psychological effects on our kids and teens.

Parents may not know when or how to step up and understand what is going on with their children. Our children are using technology differently than we may. Kids and teens usually start off playing games and texting on their cell phones at an early age, most teenagers now have smart phones, which are connected to the internet at all times. Many are sending texts, chatting, and logged in to Facebook all day. These children have a great knowledge of the digital world, but if parents can become more aware and involved of this online world, you may aid in the protection from online dangers. It is sad to convey, but 1 in 3 teens and 1 in 6 pre teens have become victims of cyber bullying. Statistics have shown that nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online, out of the 43%, 1 in 4 has had it happen more that once. Bullying victims are nine times more likely to consider committing suicide.

I have chosen this topic because I see that this is a huge problem among our kid and teenager population. I am a mother of a thirteen year- old daughter and I have a great interest, concern, and willingness to become more educated about this topic.
