Mr. Roberts would be considered an expert in professional selling. With his 30 years of selling, he has become a professional in the sales division. He started with a degree from Bowling Green first selling commercials for the local radio station part time. After he attained his degree, he started out in Cleveland working for a radio station selling commercials. He has done everything from local sales to national sales. Currently, he works for Buckeye Cable-System and sells commercials to television networks.

Mr. Roberts discussed popular myths which salespeople are commonly thought of when talking about sales. Some of the popular myths which were discussed include; salespeople are shady, schmoozing is selling, no ethics in selling, marketing and selling are the same thing, selling is about winning over the customer, selling isn’t a profession, anyone can sell, selling is a numbers game, selling is a dead end job, and salespeople must like rejection to sell. There are thousands more myths out there about sales people, but none of these are true. Selling is a professional field to be in and respected in businesses because salespeople are the ones out actually selling the product or service. Selling is one of the hardest jobs out there due to the amount of work it takes to build relations with their customers and are self sufficient.

In Mr. Robert’s opinion, the top three qualities which are sought for in salespeople which were described makes a person very well rounded. He personally looks for good listeners who listen to the wants and needs of their customers and their fellow businesspeople. Creativity is also another trait which Mr. Roberts looks for in salespeople. Creativity is essential to design new ways in which salespeople can sell different packages and work with their customers. Problem solving is an essential trait which salespeople must have in order to work efficiently when a problem comes up.
