To start off my argument, let me make it crystal clear that I believe one hundred percent in the Castle Doctrine, also known as the Stand Your Ground Law. This law has saved a multitude of innocent lives in its few short years of existence. Next I will state three solid reasons for my beliefs. These reasons are not to push my beliefs on anyone, but simply to bring certain overlooked facts to light. The first is the fact that if someone comes onto your property in an aggressive manner, you must assume that they mean harm to you or your family. The second is the fact that victims of these terrible crimes shouldn’t be fearful of legal retaliation while acting in self-defense. The third is the fact that this doctrine deters crime. There are many more reasons that I could give, but I feel that for the sake of time, these should suffice.

The first and perhaps most predominate reason I believe in the Castle Doctrine goes hand in hand with my belief in protection of self and third parties. There have been so many times that I have been watching the news and heard of cases where innocent people lost their lives or the lives of their loved ones because someone lacked a moral compass. These kinds of acts make me sick to my stomach, and I feel that the Castle Doctrine gives people a sense of protection. If someone makes forceful entry to your property, house, or even personal vehicle, you must assume the worst. I know that this is a sad way of thinking about fellow humans, but we live in a tough society. The Castle Doctrine gives citizens the right to protect their family, as well as themselves, and I believe that that is completely necessary these days.

The second reason I think the Castle Doctrine is a good thing is that it gives people the right to act in defense without fear of criminal or civil retaliation. This is important considering that most home invasions take place in the middle of the night. Most people are home, asleep in their beds, and...
