Why Does Cultural Fit Matter?

In today’s rapidly changing business environment, a well-defined recruitment policy is necessary. Therefore, it is important to have a clear and concise recruitment policy in place, which can be executed effectively to recruit the best talent pool for the selection of the right candidate. In trying to match a recruitment policy with Zappos, I have found that Whole Foods may be similar. They are a company that puts values and social consciousness first. Zappos also is a company whose culture is driven by their 10 core values. Whole Foods strives to allow employees to flourish and as a result set an industry benchmark for reducing voluntary turnover. They provide a thriving environment in which their employees can be their true selves. They empower employees by innovation and dispensing decision making, offering individual and team incentives. Again this seems to match Zappos employee empowerment culture. Whole Foods is very open about the importance of employee empowerment when they are making hiring decisions. Interviews are often performed by a team and/or panel. There recruiting methods are similar to Zappos in which heavy use of social media and event planning occur. Team member participation in group interviews is one way they put their culture of empowerment into action during the selection process. The team interview process does help with hiring decisions and also puts diversity into the different aspects of the positon being offered. In addition, the process helps internalize the company values for both the interviewers and the candidates. Whole Foods recruitment zeros in on attracting people who are passionate about healthy food, about communities they live in, and about how they treat our planet. They want their employees to bring passion into the workplace and make a difference....
