Essay

The year is 2016 and only people who are over eighteen can only drive by themselves to anywhere they want. People who are caught driving under age have to go to prison for a whole night which they don’t care about. This is a narrative of a person we don’t know well. It’s about how he felt about taking the age limit on driving.

The day is Monday and I am only 14 years old. My parents are allowed to drive since they’re past the age limit of 18. I, on the other hand, am not allowed to drive. My parents drive anywhere they want to while I am stuck at home alone with my brother. I want to get out of the house and roam the city in a car but I can’t. The police have been really patrolling the streets in search of law breakers. Last week, fourteen people were caught driving under-age.

In my house there is nothing to do. There is no game system, no computer, nothing to pass the time. The only thing there is books. TONS of books. I try to read them but they are too hard and my mind keeps drifting off. I always dreamt on how it would feel like to drive by myself to the places I needed to go some days. Instead of me driving to my places, I have to ask my parents for a ride when I am able to drive there if the law permitted me to do so. For example, I am a soccer referee. I need rides to the arenas and fields in order to ref the soccer game. If I don’t turn up, I don’t get paid and I don’t get to have fun.

The day is Tuesday and I need to go to the library to finish my project for a class. The library is 5-6 miles away and it was raining. I had to wake up my parents when they were resting for a hour or two. It was a easy drive one which I could have done and I also could have let my parents rest more. Once I get there, I have to tell when I need to get picked up which can be hard sometimes. If they only reduced the driving age, life would be easier to some people.

This ends the page of the journal. Some people want to get out of the house because they want...
