This week I have chosen to write on the Ethics of the Pornography Industry. Ethics & Pornography is the ultimate oxymoron of words that can be coupled however there is a strong sense of what is right and wrong to those who are serious about the business of Pornography. This article in particular entitled “How to revel in porn and feel good about it” written by Micah Toub, discusses a few issues in the genre of Pornography and the Ethics involved.

There are many concerns with individuals who are against the pornography industry however the concerns vary based upon the individuals moral content. I will address the Social Ethics of Pornography. * “According to the text a socially responsible company is obligated to maximize its positive impact on stakeholder and to minimize its negative impact.” The performers, production companies, and communities feel deep impacts from the pornography business. The performers should receive socially ethically responsible treatment from the companies by being safe and cognizant of the performer’s wishes. A good scene can turn into rape with a simple word of “No” and an aggressive director. Some production companies such as “Vivid” use condoms in their movies and ensure that the public is aware of the company’s practices and provides information on safer sex before their videos.

Is there ethics in pornography? I believe so, if there are rules of war than we can provide proper parameters for pornography. Sex is an act that is natural and god given just as exercise is and the only difference between pornography and “Be fruitful and multiply”- God, Genesis 1, verse 28, is love and a video camera. God never said, make sure the door is closed before you be “fruitful”, that’s the shame of man and the apple biting thing, but that’s another issue.
