Under Drucker’s Confucian ethics of interdependence: (a) which of the five basic relationships of interdependence is most relevant to the relationship between a pharmaceutical company and the foreign country that hosts its clinical trial? , and (b) what actions are sincere to the pharmaceutical company-host country relationship?

a) The five basic relationships of interdependence of Confucianism are as follow –

* Superior and subordinate or master and servant - A good superiors or masters are kind and the subordinates or servants are loyal.

* Father and child - A father loves his son, and the son exhibits reverence to his father.

* Husband and wife - A husband should be good to his wife and his wife in turn should be obedient.

* Oldest brother and sibling - An older brother should be kind to younger sibling, and younger sibling should be respectful of their older siblings.

* Friend and friend - Two friends should be considerate and respectful of each other.

The most relevant relationships of interdependence between a pharmaceutical company and the foreign country that hosts its clinical trial should be friendship. The characteristics of friendship include sympathy, honesty, trust, mutual understanding and compassion (Friendship). These characteristics are important in a relationship between the pharmaceutical company and the host country.

The main reason for the pharmaceutical companies to choose new locations for their trials is time and money. Most developing countries have less strict regulations, which help the pharmaceutical companies to cut the time of a trial. Reduction in the length of the clinical trials could have substantial reduction in cost and more years for profit within the patent period.
