Our political leaders have been debating gun control for the last two decades. As more innocent people die from gun violence each year, more states are passing bills that are violating our Second Amendment right. According to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, “In the 12 months since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., almost every state has enacted at least one new gun law” (qtd. in Yourish, Andrews and Buchanon). As more bills are passed by the state to increase restriction on gun control and ownership, our Second Amendment right keeps eroding away. Even though hundreds of innocent people die from gun violence in the U.S. each year, I believe that law-abiding citizens should be allowed to own guns, due to their constitutional right to bear arms and to defend themselves.

The main reason why I despise our political leaders to pass more bills restricting the use of guns is because our Founding Fathers gave us the Constitutional right to bear arms. The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights states that; “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” [ (Madison and Mason) ]. I tend to disagree that our judicial systems continually pass bills for the reason that our many innocent people are dying from gun violence.
