​Theft offenses have been common throughout recorded history. Property crime is a category of crime that includes, among other crimes, burglary, larceny, theft, motor vehicle theft, arson, shoplifting and vandalism. ​

​Larceny, taking for ones own use the property of another, by means other than force or threats on the victim or forcibly breaking into a person’s home or workplace; theft. Constructive possession, a legal fiction that applies to situations in which persons voluntarily give up physical custody of their property but still retain legal ownership. Petty, larceny and grand larceny, thefts of small amount of money or property, punished as a misdemeanor. Grand larceny, theft of money or property of substantial value, punished as a felony. Shoplifting, the taking of goods from retail stores. Credit card theft, thieves concealed the data in encrypted retailer cards and get information from computer servers. They steel identity and wipe out the cards. Auto theft, motor vehicle theft is another common larceny offence.

​There are other criminal activities that involve a more discrete from of steeling such as bad checks and false pretenses. These activities fall under an unmoral act people now a days treat it as normal. Bad checks also known as naïve check forgers, amateurs who cash bad checks because of some financial crisis but have little identification with a criminal subculture. Systematic forgers, professional who make a living by passing bad checks. False Pretenses (fraud) misrepresenting a fact in a way that causese a deceived victim to give money or property to the offender.
