How I Learned to Love Football

In the Article “How I Learned to Love Football,” Felisha Rogers talks about how she was a high school student who didn’t care for football at all, and when she became an adult she actually somewhat understood it and formed her own opinions about it. Her husband is a huge Green Bay Packers fan, her love for him made her appreciate things that made him really happy. She explained how she appreciated football very clearly by saying “Football fandom is a source of comfort, common ground where one can meet with friends and rivals alike, an equalizing arena where your opinion is just as valid as the next guy’s, economics or expertise be damned.” (Rogers 533) Football isn’t just about winning or losing as it is about the importance it plays in many people’s lives in America.

In this essay I will be using mainly Ethos, Logos, and Pathos analysis because the author used a lot of different moments with Ethos, Logos, and Pathos that will be talked about in the paper.

Rogers starts her article with a personal emotion describing how much she disliked football. Realizing she married a guy that was exactly like her, except for one thing and that was that she didn’t like football and her husband was in love with the Green Bay Packers football team. This technique immediately establishes the essay as deep and personal. It is a great way to capture how the reader really feels and why. This particular anecdote is used as background information, the things I will be talking about is how Felisha and her husband rich had financial issues and how Brett Favre and many other players went through a lot of issues, second I will be talking about how emotions changed on the sport of football. Last I will be talking about how her husband Rich brought a greater input in her life to show her why football isn’t just a game.
