Infertility - In Vitro Fertilization

When becoming pregnant, it’s essential that the processes of ovulation and fertilization is carried out properly so that fertilization is successful ("Female Infertility." Mayo Clinic). In some cases, infertility will occur, which is when a woman is unable to carry out the full pregnancy, or when a couple is unable to conceive after having regular sexual intercourse over the span of 12 months ("What Is Infertility? What Causes Infertility? How Is Infertility Treated?" MNT). There are many causes of female infertility, most of which include ovulation disorders, damage / blockage in the fallopian tube, and uterus / cervical deficiencies. Some causes of some ovulation disorders include different hormonal disorders. Problems with ovulation restricts one from having a child as ovulation is needed in order for fertilization to occur. Damage done to the fallopian tubes means that the chances of the sperm reaching the egg is low, or that the fertilized egg is blocked from making its was to the uterus, in which the fertilized egg will implant itself in the fallopian tubes, known as an ectopic pregnancy. With the problems regarding the uterus or the cervix, some interferences in those areas, such as interfering with the implantation of the egg in the uterus, would restrict the mother from being able to conceive normally.

Some other factors that might cause infertility would be age, consumption of alcohol, use of tobacco and other drugs, being overweight / underweight, and other health concerns. All of those could potentially have a play in the cause of infertility as it could cause abnormalities in different areas which restricts one from being able to conceive ("Female Infertility." Mayo Clinic). Any of those risk factors that occur either in men or women, will increase the risk of infertility.
